Surrey Shield Award



At the recent British Beekeepers Association Annual Delegates Meeting, it was announced that Yorkshire BKA had won the Surrey Shield - a prize awarded to the Area Association with the most passes for the Basic Assessment. Leeds Beekeepers Association contributed 10 successful candidates in 2022 to the overall Yorkshire total, (Leeds also had 11 successes in 2021, 8 in 2019 and more in previous years). MANY congratulations to the successful candidates and everyone involved at Leeds in helping candidates to prepare for the assessments.

Clare McGettigan, the Chair of Leeds Beekeepers Association, collected the award on behalf of YBKA from Anne Rowberry, President BBKA.


If you would like to take your Basic Assessment and would like to find out more, please contact the association's Education officer.The pass rate is high and should be easily achievable for anyone who has kept bees for a couple of seasons. Successful candidates will receive a certificate as well as a badge for your beesuit.
